SIA Security Guard Training

Security Guards (or Officers) work in a wide variety of roles in the private security industry. Usual roles include static guarding, manned guarding and key holding. You must attend and pass a course with one of our approved training providers to apply for your SIA Security Guard Licence.

The SIA Security Guarding course runs over 4 days and is divided into 3 units. You must sit an exam at the end of the course comprising of multiple choice questions. The course content includes:

Unit 1

Working in The Private Security Industry

Unit 2

Working as a Security Officer

Unit 3

Conflict Management for The Private Security Industry

Course Assessment

At the of the course, you will be assessed on the course units. The assessment format for each unit is broken down below:

  • Unit 1 - Working in The Private Security Industry:
  • A multiple choice question exam with 40 questions. For each question, you will have to chose the correct answer from 4 options provided to you.
  • Unit 2 - Working as a Security Guard:
  • A multiple choice question exam with 45 questions. For each question, you will have to chose the correct answer from 4 options provided to you.
  • Unit 3 - Conflict Management for The Private Security Industry:
  • A multiple choice question exam with 20 questions. For each question, you will have to chose the correct answer from 4 options provided to you.
  • All of the assessments will be conducted within the course duration.

  • We understand that exams can be daunting or nervous for many candidates. Many candidates on the course have not done an examination for a long time. The trainer on the course will equip you with all the knowledge needed to pass.

How to apply for
SIA Security Guard Licence?

The first step in applying for your SIA Security Guard Licence is to book, attend and pass the Security guard training course. 

The next step is to complete the forms on the SIA's website. The SIA stands for Security Industry Authority and they issue the licence. The SIA is a government body and will check the following:
1. Your identity
2. Criminal record and background
3. Your course qualification 
You do not need to provide any proof of your qualification as the SIA is able to check and validate qualifications electronically.
